George Mason University Foundation Thanks Board Members for Their Service

The George Mason University Foundation (GMUF) expressed its gratitude for the work of seven members of the George Mason University Foundation’s Board of Trustees as their terms came to an end this fall.
“We are sincerely grateful to the outgoing members, who have so graciously shared their time, talent and leadership,” said Trishana E. Bowden, GMUF president and George Mason University vice president for advancement and alumni relations. “Each of these members offered unique and valuable perspectives, and we’ve gained from their wisdom, experience, and passion for the university and its students.”
These board members have served the foundation and the university in a variety of roles. They have joined foundation committees and search committees, established student scholarships and competition programs, helped to launch partnerships and comprehensive campaigns. “These members have left an indelible mark on the George Mason University Foundation,” said Bowden. “They are leaving behind legacies of service for others to follow.”
Adel Antoun, BS ’88, served on the Board of Trustees for three years and lent his expertise to the Investment Committee for all three years. Mr. Antoun also joined the search committee for the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer position for GMUF Endowment management and has been a generous friend to the university.
Sharon Apricena spent six years on the on the Board of Trustees, serving on the Audit Committee.
Ms. Apricena has generously engaged with Mason students through her participation with the Costello College of Business and lent her expertise to the panel “Leading Patriots: Personal and Corporate Financial Management.”
James Consagra has spent nine years on the Board of Trustees, where he served on the Finance Committee from 2014-17 and on the Investment Committee from 2017-23. Mr. Consagra is the president of United Bankshares Inc., which has generously supported the Hylton Performing Arts Center, the Costello College of Business, and Mason’s Presidential Faculty Medal for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion — which is named for United Bank.
Brian Hays completed his 9th year on the Board of Trustees, where he served on the Finance Committee for eight years and on the Finance and Real Estate Committee for the past year. Mr. Hays and his family established the Cameron Ryan Hays Competition and Conference for “Outside-the-Box” Transportation Solutions at George Mason University. The program honors the memory of their son, Cameron, an “outside-the-box”- thinking 2011 master’s graduate of the George Mason University School of Policy, Government, and International Affairs (now the Schar School of Policy and Government).
Todd House, BA ’90, MPA ’03, completed his 9th year on the Board of Trustees, where he served on the Finance Committee for five years, the Nominating and Governance Committee for three years and the Advancement and University Priorities Committee for the past year. Mr. House was also a member of Mason’s SciTech Advisory Board and has been an engaged Schar School alum who attends events and meets regularly with Mason faculty and staff.
Sonya Stone, BS ’83, completed her 7th year on the Board of Trustees, where she served on the Investment Committee, as well as an at-large member of the Executive Committee from 2018-22. Stone also served on the steering committee for Mason’s Faster Farther campaign from 2013-18, and with the George Mason University Foundation OCIO search committee for George Mason Foundation management.
Bruce Wardinski completed his 9th year on the Board of Trustees, where he has served on the Audit Committee. Wardinski has been a generous supporter of Mason Athletics, and worked to build partnerships between the hospitality industry and Mason’s Tourism and Events Management Program in the College of Education and Human Development.
There are also four Community Representatives who are leaving the board, all of whom served from 2021-2023:
Liza Wilson Durant, Associate Dean and Professor of College of Engineering and Computing, and Associate Provost, Strategic Initiatives and Community Engagement served as the Faculty Representative.
Christine Landoll, BS ’89, MS ’92, served as a GMU Alumni Association Board Representative.
Alpaslan Ozerdem served as the Dean Representative for the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution.
Rolando Flores Santos, BS ’18, served as the Community Representative for the George Mason University Foundation.
