The George Mason University Foundations was a proud sponsor of the Mason Dance Fête, held on March 25, 2023, which supports critically-needed funding for scholarships and invests in the next generation of professional dancers, choreographers, arts administrators, and dance educators. “These scholarships help students who want to pursue a career in dance, not only locally and within the states, but also internationally,” said Amanda Snellings, assistant director of development for College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), who played a significant role in the planning of the event
During the Fête, choreographers from all over the world dance, perform, and generally engage with Mason students. In February, choreographer and director Doug Varone, a Mason artist-in-residence, invited dance students to perform with his company at the Fête and the annual Mason Dance Company Gala. The students performed a version of the piece Double Octet.
Mason students were also able to have a Q&A session with Varone, receiving valuable advice and asking questions that gave them insight into their desired career and passions.
“This event is specific to Mason’s School of Dance, helping to raise funds for student scholarships and giving them experience with professionals in the dance world,” said Snellings. The Fête takes place immediately before Mason’s annual Dance Gala Concert, and offers discussions and demonstrations, refreshments, and presents sponsorship opportunities to community members wishing to support the school’s programs. The George Mason University Foundation is proud to annually support Mason’s School of Dance as it orchestrates ways to create pathways for students and engage the community.
